The Leech Lake Project: The End is in Sight!

Hi everybody! The Leech Lake Project has come a looooong way since my last blog post- oops! I thought I would bring you all up to speed on the current state of the house. Here are some progress photos taken from the past weeks/months. We have started to install furniture now and this house is really starting to feel like a home. Landscaping is starting next week and as soon as the weather cooperates the exterior gets a lovely coat of white paint!

Here is the future outdoor shower- it will get enclosed once landscaping is finished.

White shiplap covers most of the walls in the house giving it that modern cottage look I love so much! We had the door to the basement made of shiplap so it blends seamlessly into the wall.

We used a super cool matte white glass tile backsplash in the kitchen. It has just a hint of blue which I love for a lake home.

We used an awesome charcoal color (Benjamin Moore 'Kendall Charcoal) on the walls in the master bedroom. The room is filled with so much natural light so going dark with the paint makes it feel cozy. I also love the contrast of a bold dark paint color next to a bright white one. This is the carrara marble slab that is installed on the master bathroom vanity (I don't have a photo of it, but it is AMAZING).

Here is the laundry/office/mudroom looking super cute with those green/gray cabinets and white hex floor. Check out the "v" groove detail on the cabinet doors!

The ladder at the end of the hallway takes you upstairs to the bunk room designed for the home owners grandchildren. We separated the girl and boy spaces with a sliding barn door.

The guest bedroom and bath is sweet and simple.

Leech Lake Project: Progress & Plans

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some progress photos and plans for the Leech Lake project I'm working on! This is a new build home that I designed for a couple to spend their summers relaxing and entertaining their large family and grandkids (we're giving them the cutest bunk room space ever!) The home is built on high ground next to the water with a large deck running across the front. You can't see any land from inside the house, it's like your floating on the water- so cool! Here are some progress photos I took at the last site visit. (Don't mind the iphone quality photos!)

Condo Plans & Progress

As most of you know, my husband and I recently bought a condo. It was built in the 1970's and was begging to be renovated. Our plan is to take this place from outdated and boring to sleek and soulful- think old school meets new school. Below is the mood board I created for our kitchen; that hunter green color will be on our cabinets! We are keeping everything else pretty classic with marble, wood and brass accents. I'm also really into vintage portraits of people right now so I'll be hunting around local shops for those. We are ripping out the old vinyl and carpet and installing new white oak hardwood floors throughout the entry, kitchen and dining room. Our HOA requires us to have carpet in the bedroom and living room (less noise for the unit below us) so we found a super cool hemp product that we love!

Below is the mood board for our bathroom. It's a pretty small space but I want to make a big statement in it. I've decided to cover the bottom half of the walls with black painted bead board for a super chic look. The brass fixtures and wood mirror are a cool mix of modern and classic design and will bring a lot of warmth into the space.

Here are some before/progress photos of where we're at right now. I'm sure you're all thinking "you're living there NOW??" ha yes, we're living here during the renovation! It has been quite the experience so far, it has to get worse before it gets better... We are in the process of getting everything painted white, skim coating over the popcorn ceilings and ripping up the old flooring.

Boho Eclectic Palm Springs Home

Want to know my dream come true? Clients in Palm Springs, CA with a love for everything bohemian that tell me I can do whatever I want with their home. Yes, that happened. We filled this home with vintage textiles from Morocco and Turkey, lots of cacti (with more to come) and incorporated every color in the rainbow to give it a laid back, funky vibe. We are still waiting on a few more items and artwork to be delivered, but I couldn't keep these photos to myself anymore!

Baby Lauren's Nursery

This nursery was such a joy to design for my new niece, Lauren. I was the only one in the family who knew she was a girl and had to keep a secret for 20 weeks! Okay, maybe I told one or two people... This room is a mix of modern and classic design. I wanted to keep the major pieces  (crib, dresser, and glider) sleek and modern and mix in antiques to give the space a "collected" feel. The dresser is an Ikea piece that I had painted mint green to balance the pink in the room. We cut the legs at an angle to give it a mid-century look and added the rose gold hardware to the drawer fronts. I made the mobil as a gift to Lauren with wood from a local craft store and painted different pieces to give it a girly look. The rug is a vintage find from ebay that brings so much soul into this little space. I hope Lauren has as much fun growing up in this nursery as I had designing it!

A Darling Lakeside Baby Shower

I love everything about baby showers. Getting together with family and friends, tiny baby clothes, yummy chocolate cupcakes, dainty french music, a glowing mother-to-be, freshly picked wild flowers, and plenty of sunshine. What's not to love? Yesterdays shower was for my cousin-in-law, Kelsie, who is due in early September and I could not be more excited for the arrival of baby H!

Cabinets, Tile & Trim, Oh My!

We've been working away at 4704 Wilford Way and everything is coming along beautifully! Cabinets are in the process of being installed, tile is being laid, and trim is going up. Here are some progress photos I took this morning, enjoy!

This is probably my favorite space of the entire house, although that is tough to say because I love it all! The window seats are so charming and the light in this room is so bright. Under all that paper on the floor is a super dark hardwood floor with a matte finish (some is new and some is original to the house). In between the window seats is a gas fireplace that is going to be surrounded by cararra marble and topped with a chunky wood mantel.

I chose to go with painted white kitchen cabinets which makes the already larger kitchen feel even bigger. You can't go wrong with a white kitchen- it's timeless. Actually, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with white anything! Crown molding and a coffered ceiling will be next on the to-do list in the kitchen. I chose to coffer the ceiling in the kitchen to give some definition to the space between the kitchen/living/dining areas because there are no walls separating the spaces. I don't know about you guys, but I think doing dishes might actually be fun at that 36" porcelain farmhouse sink!

With this wood, all of my shiplap dreams are coming true. This room is the more "relaxed" family room off of the dining space and is going to be top to bottom white shiplap!

Trim is going up and all the doors are in too! I chose a classic five-panel door for throughout the house. Even the mudroom closet gets wonderful sunlight in it.

Try to ignore the mess, but here are some photos of the tile and bathroom cabinets going in!

A Sunny Memorial Day Weekend

Why can't every weekend be like Memorial Day Weekend? Mine is usually spent at the lake- early morning coffee on the deck, bike rides on the Heartland trail, barbecuing, and just enjoying the beautiful summer weather; and this Memorial Day was no exception.

Waking up to the calm lake, the smell of coffee, and warm sunshine is my definition of the perfect morning. The only thing missing was my husband Walker who had to work all weekend, poor guy! My parents house was looking extra bright with fresh picked flowers and funky accessories that my mom picked up at Anthropologie.

My mom, sister and I had lunch at my favorite spot in town "The Green Scene", an adorable organic market. I'm always so inspired to cook when I go there. Everything is so fresh, its hard not to buy everything in the market! We decided to make a dijon marinade with parsley, garlic, and onion for shrimp and chicken along with grilled veggies and ciabatta bread. (recipe below)

For 1 lb of shrimp (combine in a large plastic zip-loc bag and marinate all day before grilling)

2 tbsp dijon mustard

1/2 cup olive oil

juice of 1 lemon

handfull of freshly chopped basil

handful of freshly chopped flat leaf parsley

3 cloves of crushed garlic

1 finely chopped onion

1 tbsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

Hope you all had a relaxing and fun Memorial Day Weekend! I am so thankful for all the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our freedoms! xo

Light and Bright Space

There has been lots and lots of work going on at 4704 Wilford Way over the past few weeks! All of the plumbing, heating, and electrical work is complete and drywall has gone up! It's amazing the transformation that happens when drywall is installed, the house is so light and bright now and it's much easier to get a real sense of space. I will be busy the next couple weeks choosing paint colors, ordering cabinetry and countertops, selecting lighting, tile, and lots more. I can't wait to make design selections that will bring this house to the next level! I love watching every stage of this home come together; here are some progress photos from today, enjoy!

My First Flip

For all of you who don't know, I'm flipping a house! This is my first project since I have graduated from the Art Institute in December and is an absolute dream come true for me! I am the designer on the project and I'm working with two of my family's closest friends, Dan and Shirley Sheldon along with a great building company, Sather Design Build. The house is located at 4704 Wilford Way in Edina, Minnesota. We purchased the house in February as a four level spilt (built in the 1960's) and now have added a fifth level with a spacious master suite and another bedroom with an en suite bath. To say that we have changed this house is the understatement of the century. We've knocked down interior and exterior walls, added a bump out of 10'0", moved the kitchen from the back of the house to the front, and so much more! All new windows were installed last week and all new plumbing and electric is going in this week. Here are some progress shots of the house from the last few weeks!
